President - Barb Thornbury

After graduating from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 1988, Barb Thornbury moved to Warrenville with her husband Brad in 1991. While raising her three children, Barb was the president of the Warrenville Womens Connection for four terms, a Girl Scout leader, softball coach, and was a volunteer member of the DuPage Well Women"s Coalition, Art on the Prairie Committee, American Cancer Society, Warrenville Lions Club, WYFS Discoveries Resale Shop and co-ran her familys automotive business at the same time she ran her independent teaching business. In 1999, Barb was elected to the Warrenville Park District Board of Commissioners for the first time and became President of the Board in 2001. During her second term, she became aware of unmet recreational needs of children in wheelchairs and assisted devices within the community, and in response, designed and oversaw the construction and funding of the Special Needs Playground located at Bower School. Barb left the Warrenville Park District Board of Commissioners for two years in 2011 for other pursuits, but has returned and is now Board President to continue her vision for a strong, healthy, fiscally sound park district within Warrenville.
